RELIGIOUS SCHOOL REGISTRATION AT TEMPLE SHALOM

2005 - 2006

Temple Shalom of Milton is accepting registrations for its Rabbi Jerome Weistrop Religious School for children in grades pre-kindergarten to high school, ages 3 to 16 years old.  Classes start September 11, 2005, and are supervised by Education Director Nancy Mollitor.

The Story Hour class is designed for 3-5 year-old children and meets one Sunday a month.  This program introduces children to the Jewish holidays through stories and arts and crafts.  It helps foster a sense of Jewish community and interaction with other Jewish children. Temple membership is not required for enrollment and there is no charge to attend.

The Gan class, for students in secular school kindergarten, meets every Sunday, 9 – 11:30 am.  Students are introduced to important Biblical characters, the synagogue, holidays, and the Hebrew language. The Pre-Aleph class, for students in secular school grades 1 and 2, also meets on Sunday mornings, 9-11:30 am.  Hebrew studies are continued along with the introduction of different Bible stories, the prophets and Jewish practices and concepts.

The Aleph class, for students in third grade, meets Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.  This class begins the study of the Hebrew language in depth, as well as further study of Jewish concepts and beliefs.

Every Sunday morning, from 11-11:30, the entire school (parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend) meets in the chapel for a learners’ service, where they learn not only the melodies of the prayers of the Shabbat morning service, but also learn about the importance and content of the prayers they are chanting.  Transliteration of the prayers is provided for those parents unable to read Hebrew.

All of the above are open to students with no religious school background.  The more advanced classes – Gimmel, Daled , Hey and Vuv – are available to students with previous religious school background.

This year the religious school is offering a course to teens (7th-12th grades) on the Holocaust, taught by Nancy Mollitor one Sunday evening a month.  Students from the 5th grade through 12th grade are also invited to join the United Synagogue Youth group (meeting at Temple Beth Am in Randolph) for exciting monthly social and religious activities with other Jewish youth from the surrounding areas.

Temple Shalom of Milton is an egalitarian congregation which follows the guidelines of the Conservative movement.  Its calendar is full of religious, cultural, educational and social activities throughout the year.  The Temple is located at 180 Blue Hill Avenue (Rte. 138) in Milton, approximately four miles north of Route 93/128.  Parents of prospective students as well as anyone interested in Temple membership are invited to call the Temple office at 617-698-3394 or Education Director Nancy Mollitor at 617-698-3395 (Email is: Milton.DirEd@verizon.net).
