Audiobook Recaps work similarly to the 'previously on' segment in TV episodes, offering short audio summaries of the story so far. These summaries are generated based on the portion of the book the listener has already heard, ensuring that the plot and characters remain fresh in their memory. The feature is particularly useful when listeners return to an audiobook after a break, making it easier to rejoin the story without re-listening to large sections.
Spotify's commitment to making audiobook listening more seamless and intuitive is evident in this feature. The company emphasizes that Recaps are designed to reduce friction and keep listeners immersed. They appear only after a user has listened to at least 15 to 20 minutes of a book, and the summaries update as the listener progresses through the chapters. In addition to Audiobook Recaps, Spotify has also updated its Shuffle feature. Premium users can now turn off Smart Shuffle if they prefer a more personalized playlist experience. Both Free and Premium users can tap any song during shuffle and play it next without altering the entire queue. The default Shuffle has been improved to repeat fewer songs by avoiding tracks that were recently listened to, making playlists feel less repetitive. For those who prefer the older style with more randomness, Premium users can switch back to Standard Shuffle in the settings.
